Solution:

On alligating the averages in classes A and B, we find that,

A                         B

78                     62

            54

8                         24

The ratio of number of students in classes A and B comes to 8:24

A        B        C

8       24        -

-        8           9

8       24       27

As the number of students in each class is 8:24:27, the average of all the three classes will be (8x78 + 24 x 62 + 45 x 27)/59

= (624+1488+1215) / 59

= 3327/59

Solution:

(Subhadra + Janaki)'s one day work = 1/24

(Subhadra +Janaki + Kartik)'s one day work = 1/20

Hence, Kartik's one day work = 1/20 - 1/24 = 1/120

Kartik finishes job in 120 days.

Subhadra finishes job in 60 days both Kartik + Subhadra = 1/120 + 1/60 = 3/120

Solution:

Let us assume that side of square is x and radius of circle is r.

x2 / [(22/7)r2] = n/3

x/r = k/3

n/3 = k2 / [(22/7)x 32]

n = 7k2/66

|. Kumar was among the top 25% of the boy's merit list in the class in which 60% were boys.

Il. There were three boys among the top five rank holders and three girls among the top ten rank holders.

Solution:

From I, boys = 60*30/100 = 18, girls = 12

25*18/100 = 3.5. So Kumar must have been in the top 4 among the boys

From II, we know there were 3 boys and 2 girls in the top 5.

It is given that Kumar is in the sixth place, and that Rashmi was third among girls. So she must have come after Kumar since there were only 2 girls before him.

So Kumar has got the better rank.
